Board of Directors 

The Board of Directors consists of ten elected or appointed positions along with two nonvoting positions. The BOD provides governance, strategic direction, and oversight for the organization that meets the mission and values of EAA. The roles and responsibilities include setting board policies, developing strategic plans, advocating for our profession, along with overseeing committees, task forces and working groups. 

The BOD should be familiar with and support EAA’s By-Laws, Policies and Procedures, history, and position statements. The BOD should represent EAA in a professional manner as well as represent the general membership on issues of interest or concern, display no conflict of interest with EAA, and support and promote EAA functions. 

Term:

  • The BOD typically meets on a monthly basis, although required to meet at least 6 times per year.
  • Each term consists of three years, with the maximum terms in one position being two terms (six years)
  • New BODs take office January 1st.
  • President term consists of three years with year one as President Elect, year two as President, and year three as Past President.

BOD Positions:

Presidents (President Elect, President, Past President)
The role of the Presidents are to lead the association towards its objectives, ensure effective governance, and represent the association internally and externally. The role requires a combination of leadership skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage complex relationships and operations.

All three presidential positions assist with financial oversight, in addition to the Executive Director, and meet on a monthly basis. As part of the presidential role, the President Elect acts as a liaison for the State & International Representatives and student committee. The Past President sits on the Awards, Nominations, and Elections committee. 

VP Roles
All VP positions are responsible for providing guidance and leadership to their committees. They are responsible for coordinating the meetings and activities of their respective standing committees. They attend board meetings, provide input on topics discussed during board meetings, and provide summaries of their committees work and progress.

VP of Advocacy
The role of the VP of Advocacy is to advocate for educational audiology practices through supporting members’ advocacy efforts, developing position statements, and developing materials. They generate ideas and or recommendations for an advocacy agenda and facilitate committees work to implement agenda items.

VP of Awards, Nominations, and Elections
The role of the VP of Awards, Nominations, and Elections is to maintain and review the submissions for BOD positions, Fred Berg award, student scholarship, and Noel Matkin Grant. They identify potential leaders willing to serve on the board as well as potential recipients of scholarships and grants. They may approve or deny submitted nominees based on relevant and accurate information. They make recommendations and prepare a slat of recipients for the BOD to approve. They will contact award winners along with the Presidents.

VP of Continuing Education
The role of the VP of Continuing Education is to plan and implement educational activities sponsored by EAA. They are responsible for identifying speakers and/no topics related to our profession and members’ interests for webinars and live events. The goal is to provide three to four continuing education opportunities. They collaborate with the Executive Director to implement the webinars and/or live events. They will also act as Conference Coordinator if the role is not filled.

VP of Membership and Public Relations
The role of the VP of Membership & PR is to promote membership growth and increase community relations for EAA. They are responsible for advertising membership renewal and promoting EAA to potential new members as well as developing and maintaining public relation plans. They may work in collaboration with other VPs and committees on topics, graphics, and materials. They are responsible for creating and distributing membership survey(s) with one at least every three years.

VP of Online Communications
The role of VP of Online Communications is to monitor and manage EAA’s internet presence through maintenance of the website, social networking, and support other electronic and web-based projects. They may be responsible for creating social media graphics and media marketing ideas.

VP of Professional Materials-Vacant
The role of the VP of Professional Materials is to develop and identify professional products that can be sold and/or distributed through the EAA store. EAA currently does not have a store and the position is vacant while the BOD works on redesigning this position.

VP of Publications
The role of the VP of Publications is to act as liaison for the Journal and EAR newsletter as well as coordination with partner organizations. They generate ideas, materials, and review information submitted for publication. They may also gather and write articles for the EAR newsletter as well as publications with partner organizations.

Conference Coordinator
The role of the Conference Coordinator is to facilitate the planning and delivery of the biennial conference. They are responsible for establishing and working with their committee to plan sessions, reach out to potential presenters, review proposals, create conference events, and establish vendors and/or sponsors. They will work closely with the Executive Director during the planning process and should be present at the conference to assist with onsite facilitations. They are included in board meetings as a non-voting member. This position is a two year term and appointed by the Presidents. Anyone who is interested in the role must submit a letter outlying their interest, vision, and goals for the upcoming conference.

Student Representative
The role of the Student Representative is to represent the students within the organization, advocate for student needs, work to increase student engagement, and lead the EAA student committee. They are responsible for establishing and working on student-led tasks, which could include social media posts or student webinar/live events. They can work in collaboration with other board committees to bring in the perspective of students. They will work closely with the President Elect and hold student committee meetings. They can be invited to board meetings as a non-voting member.
